Priorities are very important. What we put first in our lives shows what we believe. So often, we put first the things that are designed to make us happy. Some people put time with family first. Others put a successful career, or a favorite hobby first. Sometimes, people put an addiction first in their lives.

Sadly, things like career, addictions, or even family cannot save us from death. Our family members will die someday. Our careers might bring money and fun, but they cannot make us live forever. Addictions will not extend our lives; in many cases, they shorten our lives.

This doesn't seem fair. Why would God shorten our lives and allow death to bring us to the grave?

The Bible shows us that God never chose death for us. Our sins {evil things we have done} bring death to us.

The first part of Romans 6:23 shows us that “... the wages of sin is death ....”

We might feel like good people, we might think that our sins are not too bad, but the Scripture shows us the truth. Every single one of us has sinned and broken God's law. The punishment for breaking God's law is both physical death and eternal spiritual death in the Lake of Fire.

Revelation 21:8 says, "But for the cowardly, unbelieving, sinners, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their part is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

Even the sins that we try to excuse, like not believing God and lying, lead us to death. Our sins are destroying our lives.

However, God has a plan for us! He sent His Son Jesus to earth to die in our place for our sins. The rest of Romans 6:23 says “... the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Through Jesus' sacrifice, we can receive the free gift of God's eternal life.

Romans 10:9 reminds us, “... if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

To receive God's free gift, we must give our lives to Him. If we make Jesus our Lord {the Boss of our lives} and believe that God raised Him from the dead, we can be saved. Right now, you can pray and give your life over to God.

Praying is simply talking to God. We don't have to say huge words or memorize three pages of scripts; we just tell God what is on our hearts. If you want some help, we've written out a short prayer below.

God, I have sinned! I broke Your law. I believe that You sent Jesus to earth to die and save me from my sins. I believe that You raised Him from the grave. From now on, You are in charge.

To live a life for God, we need help. God has given us His Holy Word. You can read a copy of the bible here.
